Benjamin Herman EMC Insurance Companies

Benjamin P. Herman, CCIFP, CPA, AFSB, is the Home Office Bond Underwriting Supervisor for EMC Insurance Companies. Ben oversees the contract surety underwriting of the branch offices located across the country. Prior to his current role in Home Office, Ben was the Bond Manager of the Kansas City branch office. In addition to underwriting, Ben has assisted the bond claims department performing investigative accounting tasks associated with defaulting contractors. Ben has been with EMC Insurance Companies since 1994.

Prior to joining EMC Insurance Companies, Ben was a project accounting supervisor with Black & Veatch in Kansas City. He was responsible for the project accounting on major turnkey projects located throughout the world. Previous to Black & Veatch, Ben was employed by Darrell G. Street & Company, a local Kansas City area CPA firm that specialized in construction accounts. He has been associated with the field of construction accounting and finance since 1984.

Ben has been a speaker at the Kansas City Chapter of CFMA, the AICPA National Construction Conference, the Illinois CPA Foundation Construction Conference, and the Surety Association of Kansas City. He has been an instructor at the National Association of Independent Sureties Underwriting Seminar and is a past president of the Surety Association of Kansas City.

Ben has a BA in Accounting from Mid America Nazarene University. He is a member of CFMA's Iowa Chapter, the National Association of Surety Bond Producers (NASBP), and the Surety and Fidelity Association of America (SFAA).
