34 - Active Shooter Incident Fundmentals

Oct 26, 2018 3:30pm ‐ Oct 26, 2018 4:30pm

In reality, an “active shooter incident” is somewhat of a misnomer. An active shooting situation is more accurately defined as the use of hybrid targeted violence to commit mass murder. It is one of the most horrifying experiences that can occur. Unfortunately, in today’s society, it is something we should discuss, understand and for which we must be prepared.
This presentation will commence with a review of the general characteristics of these incidents as well as the perpetrators. We will then discuss how to prepare, respond and recover if an active shooting event occurs at your work environment. This portion will include situational awareness; situational comprehension; individual and institutional preparedness; immediate actions steps; tactical options, including the run-hide-fight principle; emergency services response, including appropriate interactions with first responders; and some suggested steps for recovery.
The session will conclude with a Q&A segment and a list of available resources for continuing preparedness.
