Mitchell H. Hofing

Mitchell Hofing is one of the founding principals at Dexter Hofing. In this role he has sat with employers at the bargaining table in situations involving multiemployer plans, testified on multiemployer issues including in bankruptcy court in connection with the bankruptcy of a heavily unionized $2.5 billion (annual sales) company, and advised the senior management of some of the world’s largest companies to help develop strategies for dealing with multiemployer issues. Before forming Dexter Hofing, Mitchell was a principal at Mercer where he worked for 13 years, the last five of which were devoted primarily to consulting to employers on multiemployer issues. While at Mercer, Mitchell served as plan actuary to several multiemployer and single employer pension plans. He also advised numerous clients covering the full range of withdrawal liability implications. On the single-employer side, he has wide-ranging experience in the areas of plan design, funding, accounting, administration, discrimination testing, early retirement windows, and acquisition due diligence. Mitchell has been a frequent speaker on multiemployer plan issues at Conference of Consulting Actuaries and Enrolled Actuaries annual meetings. He serves on the multiemployer plan organizing committee for the CCA. Previously, he was a member of the Enrolled Actuary exam writing committee. Before beginning his actuarial career, Mitchell traded commodity derivatives for UBS and AIG Trading Corp. He was previously an associate in the tax department at the law firm of Dewey, Ballantine. Mitchell has a B.S. in Mathematics from Yale University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary.
